Zero acreage farming refers to all production of food on or in buildings with zero-acreage of extra land needed; it includes open-air rooftop farming, rooftop greenhouses, indoor farming and other forms. By using idle and spare space to grow vegetables, the demand for local food consumption can, to a certain extent, be met.
